Policy

A) SCHEDULING LESSONS

First lesson: In order to book the first lesson, you’ll need to contact us through email, text, or phone call with your preferred availability, or request a booking through Wellnessliving. We’ll get back to you ASAP with our teachers’ availabilities that met your preferred lesson times.

Private Music Lessons: After we receive your payment and the student information form we are able to schedule a lesson by selecting the best suited music teacher. The selected teacher will contact you as soon as possible to schedule the lesson based on your availability and their availability throughout the week. Please contact us if there are any scheduling conflicts with our teachers.

Teachers, as well as students, are responsible to be on time for the scheduled lesson. If teachers are late for any reason they are responsible to make up the amount of time missed. If students are late, teachers are not required to make up the amount of time missed.

B) RESCHEDULING LESSONS (MAKE-UP LESSONS)

A maximum of three excused cancelled lessons may be rescheduled per semester. These include lessons canceled for any reason (vacation, emergency, sickness, inclement weather, etc).

More than 24 hours cancellation notice

Student: A makeup lesson will be scheduled, please contact your teacher.

Teacher: Coordinate with the student to see if a sub will be provided. If a sub will not be provided by the school, the teacher is responsible to find a different day/time in the week (or following week) to reschedule the lesson.

School: If the school is closed, the teacher will make arrangements to reschedule the lesson.

C) LATE CANCELLATION

Less than 24 hours cancellation notice

Student: Please fill out this form. A makeup lesson will be given either through a video tutorial or virtual lesson at the teacher’s discretion.

Teacher: Makeup lesson can be given through a video tutorial or virtual lesson at their discretion.

School: If the school is closed, the teacher will make arrangements to reschedule the lesson.

D) CANCELLED BY TEACHER

In the event of a teacher’s absence, the teacher is responsible to send a sub and notify you ASAP. When teacher sends a sub, all lessons must taught on the regular schedule. Teachers may schedule a substitute teacher from time to time. Any lessons canceled by the instructor will be made up at a mutually agreeable time. If a student cancels or does not attend a scheduled make-up lesson, the make-up lesson is forfeited. Should issues arise in rescheduling, such as the teacher being unable to provide a sub, he or she will schedule another make-up lesson by extending hours or doubling up the lesson hours in the couple of following weeks.

E) CANCELING LESSONS

Student: If a student is not able to attend the scheduled lesson, unless 24 hours notice is given, the lesson will be charged at the normal rate. The parent/guardian must contact their child's teacher directly to reschedule the (“make-up”) lesson. However in the case of an emergency, sickness or weather condition which prevents the student from attending the lesson within 24 hours, we are able to provide a make-up lesson without charge. For camp or music group classes, there are not refunds after the first camp day or music group class.

Contact the teachers directly via text, phone call, or email. In an event in which you’re not able to contact them directly, please call text, or email QMA during our office hours. Outside of office hours you can email, text or leave a voicemail and we’ll be happy to get back to you ASAP.

F) STUDENT ABSENCES

No refunds or make-up lessons are available for student absences.
If a student misses a lesson, the student forfeits the lesson.

G) NO one TEACHER IS EXCLUSIVELY GUARANTEED

Our staff will match the student with a teacher based on scheduling times and specific teaching goals. The student is matched with the same teacher weekly unless:

1. There are scheduling conflicts (A sub will be provided)

2. The student is ready for another teacher (Showing signs of progression, etc.)

3. The student needs a better fit (A new weekly teacher is provided by QMA)

4. The teacher will be traveling (A sub will be provided)

5. The teacher is no longer available (A new weekly teacher is provided by QMA)

H) TEACHER METHOD

Our teachers will be able to come up with a learning plan to meet the needs of any student. Working towards NYSSMA standards are highly recommended but not required.

I) SIPHONING

Our teachers are not allowed to teach our students outside of QMA unless instructed so by our director for in-home lessons. Siphoning off our students greatly hurts our business and the QMA community. Please let us know if you have this experience with any of our teachers.

J) HOW TO STOP TAKING LESSONS

30 days notice in writing directly to our managers is required.

K) UNUSED LESSON CREDITS

We expect weekly lessons. Credits cannot be rolled over to the next semester.

Lessons are expected to be done weekly as per the package you purchase.

Example

4 lessons in 4 weeks.

10 lessons in 10 weeks.

Lessons passes will expire and unused lessons will be forfeited. Holiday weeks are not included.

If a package is purchased for weekly lessons, the student is expected to come weekly. If a student comes infrequently or randomly, modifications can be made to the pass to update it to a single lesson, and additional fees will be added.

L) TRANSFERRING TO OTHER OPTIONS

The remaining balance will be credited to the student account. Credits are stored as dollars in our system. This credit can be used to deduct the pricing option for other semester or pass package amounts. For semester members, please note that credits do not roll over to the following semester. If you switch to a pass package, the credits don’t roll over after the first month of the pass purchase.

M) MEMBERSHIP TERMINATION

QMA is able to terminate this agreement if:

1. Consecutive timely payments aren’t made

2. Rude, improper, or harmful behavior arises from the student and/or student guardian.

In-person lessons will not be available to students who are experiencing any cold or flu symptoms, have traveled outside of the country or within Canada’s COVID hotspot regions within 14 days or have been exposed to someone who has tested positive to COVID within 14 days.

An online lesson will be available at the student's regular scheduled lesson day and time provided that the student has given their teacher prior notice. For the safety of our students and community, online lessons will also be scheduled if your instructor is exhibiting any COVID symptoms. Refunds and make-up lessons will not be available for any student who refuses an online lesson that has been scheduled in place of an in-person lesson due to student or instructor illness or a government mandated closure.

Philosophy

Our philosophy and methods follows by Dr. Suzuki and Shirley Givens.

The essence of his philosophy may be found in the following quotes from his many writings:

"Character first, ability second".

"Teaching music is not my main purpose. I want to make good citizens, noble human beings. If a child hears fine music from the day of his birth, and learns to play it himself, he develops sensitivity, discipline and endurance. He gets beautiful heart."

"Where love is deep, much will be accomplished."

"My dream is for the happiness of all children. I feel respect and friendly feelings for everyone. In particular, I cannot help but feel respect and warm feelings for young children. And my heart brims over with a desire to help make all the children born upon the earth fine human beings, happy people, people of superior ability. My whole life energies are devoted to this end."

"Man is the son of his environment."

"I have no doubt that people are born with hereditary physiological differences, but I believe that a person's abilities grow and develop depending on the stimulation from outside."

"I firmly believe that any child can become superior, and my confidence has never been betrayed."

"An unlimited amount of ability can develop when parent and child are having fun together."

"Music is a language that goes beyond speech and letters - a living art that is almost mystical. This is where its emotional impact comes in. Bach, Mozart, Beethoven - without exception they live clearly and palpably in their music, and speak forcefully to us, purifying us, refining us, and awakening in us the highest joy and emotion."
