Suzuki Program

Woodside, Queens & Beacon, NY

We are thrilled to introduce "Suzuki Kids Program" offered by Suzuki Certified Teachers at Queens Music Academy.

What is the Suzuki teaching philosophy?

It emphasizes nurturing a beautiful human being through music — starting as early as 3 years old. The Suzuki method approaches learning music in the same way we learn our native language: through repetition, listening, and parental involvement. We believe that music is a medium that can reach a child's mind deeply. Raising a beautiful mind human being will save the world. We regard music learning as a way where students can practice their life - as well as their critical thinking skills. Patience, empathy, communication, and learning along with our students from both the parents and the teacher is the key to success.

DESCRIPTION

The Suzuki teaching philosophy, developed by Shinichi Suzuki, is grounded in the belief that every child can develop ability when placed in a nurturing and musically rich environment. Often referred to as the “Mother-Tongue Method,” it models music education on the way children naturally acquire language.

Core Principles of the Suzuki Philosophy

1. Early Beginning

Instruction typically begins as early as age three, leveraging the brain’s heightened capacity for absorption during early childhood.

2. Mother-Tongue Approach

Just as children learn to speak through immersion, repetition, and encouragement, music is learned through:

  • Frequent listening

  • Consistent repetition

  • Positive reinforcement

  • Step-by-step progression

3. Parental Involvement

Parents play an active role in lessons and daily practice. They function as home teachers, creating a supportive learning environment and modeling commitment and patience.

4. Character Development Through Music

Suzuki education is not solely about technical proficiency. It emphasizes cultivating:

  • Discipline

  • Focus

  • Empathy

  • Patience

  • Respect

  • Communication skills

The underlying philosophy asserts that music is a vehicle for developing a beautiful heart and noble character. Technical skill is important, but the primary objective is nurturing a well-rounded human being.

5. Learning Within Community

Group classes and performances foster collaboration, listening skills, peer modeling, and mutual encouragement.

At its core, the Suzuki philosophy views music education as life education. By raising children with sensitivity, perseverance, and compassion through musical study, it aims to contribute positively to society. As Suzuki himself believed, when we cultivate beautiful minds and hearts, we cultivate a better world.
