5 Practice Tips from QMA

5 practice tips to make the most out of your practice session!

Tip 1 - Set a Timer

Choose how long you want to practice for and set a timer on your device. This helps you know when to start and stop and keeps you focused.

Tip 2 - Give Yourself Breaks

Practice in intervals (ex. 30 minutes) and then take a short break. This helps prevent burnout and keeps your focus maintained.

Tip 3 - Practice Slowly

Make sure to practice slowly. Playing slowly helps you breakdown difficult sections and builds muscle memory. As you gain confidence, you can pick up the tempo.

Tip 4 - Record and Review

Record yourself playing your piece or section and listen back to it objectively. See which spots need improvements and how you can fine-tune details like tone and articulation.

Tip 5 - Set Clear Goals

Decide what exactly you’d like to get done in your practice session. Are you going to focus on a specific section of a piece? Are you going to practice your scales? Are you going to practice rhythm or perfecting dynamics? Set clear goals of what you would like to work on to keep yourself focused and prevent burnout.
